Fixed High Expansion Foam Fire-fighting System
(for Car Holds)

Introduction

For car holds on PCC (Pure Car Carriers), CO2 system has been generally used for fire-fighting. High expansion foam system, however, has been lately found as effective against fires in car holds as those in machinery space and cargo pump room. Kashiwa started supplying to the market the high expansion foam fire-fighting system for PCC in 2001 as a replacement of conventional CO2 system.

*Patented in Japan and South Korea.

Principle / Advantages

In contrast with the inside air foam system which sucks air in the machinery space or cargo pump room to generate foam, the high expansion foam system for car holds employs fans to supply outside air to the foam generators.

The system makes good use of ventilation fans and ducts provided in car holds to deliver the generated foam, eliminating the need to install dedicated fans and ducts.

This system shares major components with the inside air foam system for machinery space and cargo pump room, contributing to saving the cost and space.

In 2017, we developed and launched the new type of foam generator which can be embedded in the ventilation duct to make more vehicle space available.

System Configuration

The system mainly consists of foam liquid tank, foam liquid pump, proportioner, manual/automatic valves, foam generators, and control panel.

Delivery Record

The system has been delivered to approximately 180 ships so far.
