Fire Extinguishing Experiment for Vehicle Fires on Car Carriers Conducted at Our Technical Center by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.

On October 17, a fire extinguishing experiment simulating vehicle fires on car carriers was conducted by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. (widely known as “K” Line) at our Technical Center’s Fire Extinguishing Test Building.

*Press release from Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd. regarding this experiment:

Our Technical Center conducts various tests for the design and development of marine fire extinguishing systems using large-scale test facilities and equipment. We agreed to cooperate with this experiment at the request of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, Ltd.

The experiment simulated a fire scenario in the cargo hold of a car carrier, involving the actual burning of a passenger vehicle (gasoline-powered) to verify fire extinguishing methods and establish new firefighting tactics. A total of 25 participants attended, including personnel from Kawasaki Kisen and the Marine Disaster Prevention Center.

At the conclusion of the training, a demonstration of the overhaul operation was also conducted. This involved suppressing the fire using our company’s high-expansion foam fire extinguishing system, which is installed in the cargo decks of car carriers, followed by personnel entering through the foam while spraying water to break down the foam and completely extinguish the source of the fire.

Through our business activities, we will continue to support the improvement of safety technologies by providing our facilities.
